Sri Lankan Socialist Party secretary, Professor Tissa Vitharana has stated that the country had already lost Rs. 2 billion in investments, and hence has left the economy in a very unstable situation.

He further added despite the Rs.1.5 billion borrowed from the international Monetary Fund that to be used to improve the middle class economy further, the process would be quite tough given the current economical situation.

Foreign investments which were worth $ 1.07 billion in 2014, had fallen to $970 million in 2015, before further plummeting to $445 million in 2016.

Hence Prof. Vitharana stressed on the importance of developing the industrial sector by making local exports more popular in the international market.
