April 4, 2017   04:40 pm

Police officers used teargas and and water cannons to disperse university students engaging in a protest march near Lotus Roundabout in Colombo.

The Galle Face entry road was closed from Lotus Roundabout due to the protest march by a group of university students.

The protest march has been organized by the Inter University Bhikkhu Federation, against the private medical college in Malabe (SAITM) and reducing the intake of Bhikkhu students to universities.

Riot police resorted to firing tear gas and water cannons at the protesters as they continued to block the road and march towards Temple Trees despite the road closure.
