Charges to be filed against Wimal and seven others - Police

Charges will be filed against MP Wimal Weerawansa and seven others for taking part in an unlawful assembly, the Cinnamon Gardens police informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today.
The case has been filed for allegedly causing public unrest during the visit made by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, Ada Derana reporter said.
MP Wimal Weerawansa, along with Jayantha Samaraweera, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Roger Seneviratne, Piyasiri Wijeyanayaka and Mohammed muzammil were summoned to the Court premises as well.
Cinnamon Gardens Police have stated that one of the suspects involved, Chaminda Jayalal, could not be found, and a request has been made to postpone the case until the suspect has been found.
Ada Derana reporters reveal that the Magistrate’s Court will be taken into consideration again on 18 September 2017.
