A cabinet meeting, headed by President Maithripala Sirisena was held in the morning today (16) at the Presidential Secretariat Office.

All ministers were invited to attend the cabinet meeting, sources reveal.

However, previous reports indicated that this particular cabinet meeting would not be taking place as the Prime Minister was on a visit to China.

Several media outlets also reported that the President had made the decision not to hold the meeting due to changes in certain ministerial positions.

Despite these, new reports stated that the cabinet meeting did in fact take place from 10.00 am onward today (16), and that it lasted a for period of about 1.5 hours.
