May 17, 2017   02:08 pm

The Colombo Additional Magistrate Wednesday refused to issue an order, upon a request made by police, preventing the anti-SAITM protest march organized by the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF).

The Peliyagoda police station had made the request, citing the fact that the protest march would cause public inconvenience.

However, the Colombo Additional Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara pointed out that the police department has powers to prevent such a situation if the need arises.

Meanwhile, the police said Galle Face entry road has also been closed from Lotus roundabout, due to the anti - SAITM protest.

The police also urged the motorists to use alternative routes if at all possible.
