Tense situation erupts between residents and police in Nanu Oya

A prevailing tense situation has arisen after a accident in Nanu Oya had claimed the life of a school girl, earlier today (15). 

The school girl had passed away after being hit by a tipper truck travelling from Nuwara Eliya to Hatton, while she was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing.

Angered by the incident, a large number of residents in the area had proceeded to set fire to the tipper truck while the driver of the truck has been arrested by the Police. 

Ada Derana reporter stated that a tense situation had arisen between the Police and the locals near the area of the accident.
