Illegal treasure hunt: five arrested

Five individuals have been arrested in Labuhengoda, Embilipitiya for allegedly attempting to mine for treasures.

The arrest was reported to have been made during a raid, which was conducted based on a tip received by the Embilipitiya Police.

A backhoe, rock drilling machine, mining equipment and several religious artifacts were taken into Police custody during the arrest.

The five suspects are said to be residents of Katuwana, Embilipitiya, whose ages range from twenty-six to thirty-eight years.

The suspects are due to be produced before the Embilipitiya Magistrate’s Court today (19), Police reported.

Meanwhile, Embilipitiya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
