Environmental destruction has become a major problem worldwide - President

President Maithripala Sirisena stated that the destruction of the environment had become a major problem worldwide.

President Sirisena said that the problem was being intensified as a result of impacts brought about my conflicts and disputes in society.

Accordingly, a need for the implementation of a new, methodical scheme has arisen in order to build a favourable and safe country, he said.

The President thus expressed his sentiments upon attending a function which was held in Giritale, Polonnaruwa.
