The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to continue the island-wide strike today (23).

The GMOA organized the strike against the injuring of university students who engaged in the anti-SAITM protest and entered the Health Ministry premises on Wednesday (21).

The General Committee of the GMOA accordingly made the decision to continue with the strike that commenced at 8.00 am yesterday (22).

The Association’s Central Committee has been tasked with deciding the future course of actions.

Member of the GMOA Central Committee, Dr. Sajith Mallawaarachchi declared that no government representative had stepped forward to hold discussions with them regarding the protest or subsequent strike.

Doctors have assured that essential and emergency services will continue to be provided amidst the strike.

However, reports indicate that patients have been subjected to distress and inconvenience as a result of the regular hospital functioning coming to a standstill.
