A mother and her two children were rushed to hospital in critical condition following a stabbing incident in the Kithulwala area in Kotadeniyawa.

However, the six-year-old daughter had succumbed to injuries before being admitted to the Meerigama Hospital.

The mother and her other daughter are currently being treated in the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital while they are said to be in critical condition.

Police suspect that the knife attacks may have been carried out over an illicit relationship while a suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder.
