NPC calls report on protest against SAITM

The National Police Commission (NPC) has decided to obtain a report from the police regarding the assault on protesting university students at the Health Ministry premises, it was reported.


NPC Secretary, Ariyadasa Cooray stated that further steps in connect to the incident will be taken accordingly.


A large number of university students, during a protest against SAITM, had forcibly entered the ministry premises and caused damages to public property, last week. Several students including Convener of the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF), Lahiru Weerasekara, and Convener of the Inter University Bhikku Federation, Ven. Tempitiye Sugathananda Thero, were arrested and remanded in connection with the incident earlier.
