Vidyaratna’s behavior was unacceptable - Amaraweera

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Mahinda Amaraweera stated that the efforts made to provide solutions to the people affected by the Uma Oya project in Bandarawela have been hindered by the actions of Samantha Vidyaratna. 

Representatives of the committee appointed to investigate the issues locals faced due to the Uma Oya project visited the site out carry out investigations, including the Amaraweera, Wijayamuni Zoyza and Anuradha Jayaratne, earlier yesterday (3). 

During the visit, MP Samantha Vidyaratna along with a few locals had tried to detain the representatives from the committee at a house in Udaperuwa, which led to a tension situation. 

Speaking about the situation mentioned, Amaraweera stated that the behavior exhibited by Vidyaratna was unacceptable. 

Amaraweera further stated that the area investigated was not safe enough for people to reside in, and that measures should be taken to re home these individuals as soon as possible. 

He further added a fair compensation program to help the affected individuals is being carried out by the government.
