Do not harm the Maha Sangha - Ven. Abhayatissa Thero

July 11, 2017   04:04 pm

Ven. Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero says that the Government must support the Bhikku’s decision to break the silence in a situation where the proposed constitution was likely to separate the country.

The Thero stated this upon attending a press conference of the Federation of National Organizations today (11).

Ven. Abhayatissa Thero also said that the Mahanayake Theros of the Malwathu and Asgiri chapters had urged the termination of the constitution creation process on the grounds that it would affect the country in an adverse manner.

The Thero added that denying said request was an insult to the Mahanayake Theros as well as the entire Buddhist population of Sri Lanka.

Ven. Abhayatissa Thero then proceeded to state that the power must be decentralized under the 13th Amendment.

The Thero also urged that the Bhikkus not be harmed as the Maha Sangha opposed only the unpatriotic course of action and not the Government.

He requested that no harm be done to Bhikkus.
