Tense situation at North Central Provincial Council

July 18, 2017   12:57 pm

A tense situation was reported within the chambers of the North Central Provincial Council this morning (18) following the tabling of a motion of no-confidence against the Chairman of the council, T.M.R. Siripala.

The motion had initially been rejected when it was presented previously by 11 UNP provincial council members.

However, it had been included into the agenda today by the Secretary of the provincial council while this had led to arguments and unruly behavior by members from both sides within the chamber.

Amidst the prevailing situation the Chairman of the North Central Provincial Council had postponed the session till August 08, however the UNP members opposed this and proceeded to appoint a new Chairman in order to continue the session.

It was also reported that certain councilors had also attempted to steal the Mace.
