Politicians supporting SAITM, hindering establishing of minimum education standards - GMOA

The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) , stated that the misuse of finances by SAITM will reveal itself in a commission similar to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into the Issuance of Treasury Bonds.

Addressing a media briefing held today (04), he stated that politicians decide on the extent of the issue depending on the benefits they will reap in from the issue itself.

GMOA added that the certain ministers who support the functioning of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM), have been hindering the legal process of establishing a minimum standard of medical education.

They further stated that although the Minister of Health, Rajitha Senaratne stated that a gazette notification will be issued setting a minimum standard of medical education in the space of two weeks, all measures have been taken to not issue this gazette notification in reality, giving the public false hope and making them wait.

Furthermore, the GMOA added that if the gazette notification is not issued anytime soon, the public will suffer from the more long term consequences.
