August 9, 2017   03:39 pm

A Sri Lanka Army Corporal who was charged with the murder of his own wife was sentenced to death by the Anuradhapura High Court today (09).

The corporal was accused of murdering his wife in Nochchiyagama on September 22, 2007, and thereafter burying her body.

He had reportedly been serving on the Sri Lanka Army artillery regiment in Mannar at the time of the incident. Accordingly, indictments were filed against him at the Anuradhapura High Court in connection with the murder.

It is noteworthy that entire case proceeded solely based on evidence uncovered through investigations, as there were no eye witnesses’ testimonies available.

The Anuradhapura High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne accordingly issued the ruling today (09) based on the evidence presented following the investigations.

He also declared before the whole court that the death penalty was being issued to the accused as the prosecuting party had, without reasonable doubt, proved their case.
