Parliamentarians to be educated in Tamil

Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya stated that the instruction of parliamentarians to have a proficiency in Tamil has become a contemporary necessity.

He further stated that this initiative will strengthen the unity amongst the people of Sri Lanka and enhance the economic and social progress of the nation.

The Speaker of parliament made these statements while attending the initiation ceremony of the work-shops that are to be conducted for parliamentarians to tutor them in Tamil.    

 Minister of National Co-existence Dialogue and Official Languages Hon. Mano Ganesan who was in attendance at the event stated that the language barrier within Sri Lanka must be treated as a national dilemma and steps should be taken to eradicate it.
