Man befriends women on Facebook before robbing them

A suspect has been arrested in Avissawella in connection with befriending women on Facebook and consequently mugging them.

Police stated that the relevant suspect had embarked upon affairs with women via the internet, and promised to wed them.

When the women came to a preplanned location to meet their “lover”, the suspect had robbed them of their money, jewelry and other possessions, before fleeing the scene.

According to Police, the suspect has been involved in such incidents in Padukka, Kalutara-North and Dehiwala.

The suspect, arrested by the Mirihana Special Crimes Unit, is said to be a resident of Niwithigala, Watapotha. He is due to be produced before the Mt. Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today (14).
