Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah assumes duties as 21st Naval Commander

Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah assumed duties as commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Navy at a ceremony held at the Navy Headquarters earlier today (20). The symbolic event was attended by President Maithripala Sirisena who conducted the handing over of duties to the new Commander.

After receiving a guard of honour upon arrival, Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah was presented with the Admiral’s sword by the outgoing Commander Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne signifying his official appointment as commanding officer. After invoking religious blessings, the new Commander assumed duties amidst a gathering inclusive of his wife, Area Naval Commander, Vice Chancellor of the KDU, the Director General of the Coast Guard, the Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Fleet and Director Generals of the Navy who all expressed their best wishes to Vice Admiral Travis Sinniah. 

The new Commander who received his primary education at Trinity College, and later at St. Joseph’s College had a star studded career in the Navy. Having joined as an Officer Cadet in 1982, he graduated and received a scholarship to the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth where he graduated in 1986. 

Previously serving as the Commander of the Eastern Naval area, Vice Admiral assumes duties as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy having a decorated career in the service.
