Cabinet approves housing allowance for Uma Oya victims

The cabinet has taken the decision to provide families whose houses have been destroyed by the Uma Oya Multi-purpose Development Project with a housing allowance of Rs. 10,000 to 25,000.

The sum will be accorded to those who have been evacuated from their damaged houses for a maximum of 6 months, until they are resettled in safer lands.

The cabinet accordingly arrived at the aforementioned decision yesterday (29), based on the report compiled by the cabinet ad hoc committee.

The decision was announced today (30) at the weekly cabinet press briefing.

The cabinet has also approved the proposal to provide dry rations to the Uma Oya project’s victims for a further 8 months.
