President meets UN Secretary General

President Maithripala Sirisena met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Gutterres yesterday (23), where the Secretary General expressed the willingness of the UN to provide assistance to the reconciliation program in Sri Lanka. 

Antonio Gutterres stated that the UN will provide its fullest support to all projects that will establish Sri Lanka as an exemplary nation within the global community as a country that championed reconciliation and national identity. 

The Secretary General commended President Sirisena in adopting agreements set out in the Paris convention while also striving to achieve sustainable development goals in the attempt to develop Sri Lanka. 

Possibilities for the enhancement of ties with the UN and Sri Lanka were also discussed at the gathering.
