MC, UC and PS amendment bills passed in Parliament

The Municipal Council (Amendment) Bill, Urban Council (Amendment) Bill and Pradeshiya Sabha (Amendment) Bill were passed in Parliament, a short while ago. 

Voting on the bills took place following the second reading debate. 

Commencing the second reading debate on the bills today (9), Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha stated that there is no need to delay the local government elections.

He assured that the election will be held in January with these amendments. 

The bills were tabled in Parliament by Minister Faiszer Muthapha on September 26.
