The three LTTE prisoners detained at Anuradhapura prison, who engaged in a hunger strike, are under good health condition, The Department of Prisons said.

The hospital authorities have confirmed the three detainees are under good health condition, after they were admitted at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital following the hunger strike, said Prisons Department Media spokesperson, Thushara Upuldeniya.

The medical reports of the three detainees will be produced to the courts, he added.

The three LTTE prisoners were transferred to Anuradhapura Prison, as their cases were transferred from Vavuniya Courts to Anuradhapura.

The prisoners launched the hunger strike opposing their transfer since September 23.

They threatened to stop taking fluids from October 8, demanding the government to either brings charges against them or, orders their release.

A delegation of six Northern Provincial Council (NPC) members who visited the Anuradhapura Prison on October 7, failed to persuade the fasting detainees to give up their hunger strike until the delegation could meet President Maithripala Sirisena to brief him on the matter.

The delegation comprised NPC Chairman C.V.K. Sivagnanam, Provincial Minister of Women Affairs & Rehabilitation, Ananthy Sasitharan, former Minister P. Sathyalingam, PCs S. Sundaralingam, Dr V. Thavanathan and M.K. Sivajilingam.
