Several injured in two attacks involving sword-wielding gangs in Vavuniya

A gang of individuals wielding swords had arrived on motorcycles to carry out an attack, critically injuring two persons, at a shop in the Pandarikulama area in Vavuniya last night.

Vavuniya Police said that the attack was carried out by six suspects on motorcycles at around 7.45pm yesterday (19) and that they had also caused damages to the shop in question. 

Meanwhile in a separate incident four persons was injured following a clash between two groups in the Katpahapuram area in Vavuniya yesterday. 

The injured have been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital with cuts inflicted using swords and are said to be in critical condition. 

Police are conducting investigations to apprehend the suspects involved.
