Two fatalities following collision on Colombo-Katunayake highway

Two individuals lost their lives following a collision that occurred on the Colombo-Katunayake highway near Pamunugama. 

The accident occurred as a motorist fell asleep while driving, lost control and the vehicle and broke through the barrier hitting two workers who were cutting grass on the side of the road. 

The two workers sustained severe injuries upon impact and were pronounced dead when they were admitted to the Colombo General hospital. 

Reports confirm that the two deceased persons aged 41 and 55 were residents of Ja-ela. 

Officials from the Pamunugama police have detained the motorist and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
