The Cabinet of Ministers have approved the proposal to establish four new Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Nuwara Eliya District, Minister Mano Ganeshan said.

The proposal was submitted to the Cabinet by Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faiszer Musthapha.

Pradeshiya Sabhas will be created for Norwood, Maskeliya, Agrapathana and Kotagala with the recent Amendment in Local Authorities Elections Act 4.

The district currently has two Pradeshiya Sabhas, namely Nuwara Eliaya and Ambagamuwa which will now be divided into six Pradeshiya Sabhas.

Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha which has a population of about 210,000 would be divided into three Pradeshiya Sabhas and the Nuwara Eliya Pradeshiya Sabha, which has a population of about 190,000 would be divided into three Pradeshiya Sabhas.
