The fuel tanker ‘Neveska Lady’ with a consignment of 40,000 metric tonnes of petrol has entered Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The ship, which is arriving from Dubai, is expected to dock at the Muthurajawela buoy after midnight today (8) where it will commence the transfer of fuel.

Before reaching the buoy tests will be carried out to determine the standard of the fuel and laboratory technicians are preparing to leave for the ship to carry out the tests, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development said.

The ministry said that all preparations have been made to distribute the petrol to filling stations across the country as soon as possible.

The tanker is carrying 31,000 metric tonnes of 90 octane petrol and 7,000 metric tonnes of 95 octane petrol.

Meanwhile another oil tanker arriving from India is expected to reach the country tomorrow (9).
