The Department of Meteorology says that due to an active cloudiness, sea areas off the Northern and North-eastern coasts may be very rough temporarily  as the winds can be strengthen up to 70-80kmph during thundershowers.

Issuing a weather advisory for heavy rains, strong winds and rough seas – valid for the next 24 hours- the department requested naval and fishing communities to be vigilant in this regards.

Other sea areas may also be very rough during thunder showers, it said.

Meanwhile due to the atmospheric disturbance in the southwest Bay of Bengal to the East of Sri Lanka, the showery condition and cloudy skies are expected in the Northern half of the island.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces while showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00 p.m.

Heavy falls (above 100 mm) can be expected at some places in the Northern, Eastern and North-central provinces.
