The Joint Opposition today demanded that the five members of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), who had phone conversations with Arjun Aloysius, be suspended and an inquest held in order to safeguard the independence and trust of the COPE committee.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo today (17), UPFA MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that the CID had made a special revelation regarding the Treasury Bond scam yesterday that five COPE members had phone conversations with the owner of Perpetual Treasuries Limited, during the period of the inquiry.
He claimed that the telephone conversations had taken place during meetings of the COPE committee and that this has created a serious problem to Parliament democracy.
Aluthgamage stated that a question arises as to how the people can place its trust in the government, when those in the forefront of the Yahapalana government behave in such a manner.
