Galle incident was a failed attempt to instigate racial violence – Sagala

Minister of Law and Order and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake stated that the tense situation that ensued in Galle last night (17), has been completely diffused and that law and order has been restored to the southern region of the country. 

Minister Ratnayake stated that the IGP was notified of the incident immediately as it unfolded and that he was instructed to take all necessary precautions to diffuse the situation. 

He further stated that police personnel along with STF operatives were deployed to the region as soon as the authorities were put on notice. 

It was further stated that curfew was imposed on several regions upon instructions of the President and the IGP to safeguard the security of residents of the area. 

Minister Ratnayake stated that the situation that ensued last night was an unsuccessful attempt to create racial violence within Sri Lanka by certain anti-government activists who aim to stir the peace and prosperity of the nation.
