Sri Lankan arrested for smuggling currency worth Rs 2.3 million

A Sri Lankan national, bound to Dubai by FZ 558, has been apprehended by Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while trying to smuggle currency notes valued at over Rs 2.3 million out of the country.

The suspect was identified as a 46-year-old male residing in Colombo. He was arrested with currency notes valued at Rs 2,320,000 this morning.

The arrest was made following information received by the Customs officers.
 
The seized currency was forfeited and the suspect was released on a penalty of Rs 100,000.
