It does not concern me which party I am in – Weerakumara

Deputy Leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) MP Weerakumara Dissanayake says that President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa should engage in politics together for the betterment of the country.

The same forces who defeated Mahinda Rajapksa at the 2015 presidential polls are today harming his reputation, he said talking to reporters in Colombo today (5).

Responding to a question regarding NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa preventing the SLFP from uniting, Dissanayake said: “He is of the opinion that this can be won by going separately. I am of the opinion that no, unity is victory. We have to go with unity.”

When asked as to whether this has resulted in an internal conflict within the NFF, the former deputy minister said that there can be conflicting opinions within the party, but he would not entangle that with the press briefing.

Asked if he too had face the ire of the party of the issue, Dissanayake said that it does not concern him as to which political party he is part of and that only the party’s political decision and path is important.
