Political entities terrorizing the media have resurfaced – Mangala

Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera stated that certain anonymous entities that terrorized the media in the past have resurfaced within certain media institutions. 

Speaking to the media at an event held in Colombo yesterday (5), Minister Samaraweera stated that both the media and politicians experienced a rapid growth in power from 2005-2015. He further stated that the varied nuisances caused to the media by politicians clearly illustrated the extant of power that politicians had amassed. 

The Minister however stated that the freedom of the press was protected over the past few years and that the concept of censorship has become obsolete in the 21st century.
