Local farmers lament over decision to import rice

December 12, 2017   02:26 pm

The All Island Rice Manufactures Association (AIRMA) stated that the decision taken by the government to import artificially produced rice has led to the closing down of 99 percent of small and medium scale rice mills within Sri Lanka.

A special media briefing of the AIRMA was held today (12) to speak on the large scale scheme that has destroyed small and medium scale entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka.

President of the AIRMA Mudith Perera stated that the drought that plagued the nation during the course of the year caused the government to make an unwise decision that gravely impacted the local farmers.
