Sri Lankan nabbed with gold jewelry worth Rs. 20 million

A person was nabbed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by Customs Officers while attempting to smuggle in gold jewelry worth Rs. 20 million from Dubai, earlier today (12).

The stock of jewelry was discovered hidden inside the hand luggage of the suspect, The Custom Officials said.

The value of the stock of jewelry weighing 5.8 kilograms amounted to Rs. 29.6 million.

The suspect was identifies as a 34-year-old residing in Chilaw.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Customs.
