An initial donation of Rs.700 million was presented by Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam to a project aimed at facilitating 3312 school libraries across the island with reading material for school children.

The Minister of Education made the donation at Temple Trees last night (14), where a booklist for schools was also revealed.

The Education Ministry has partnered with principals and library staff members of schools across the country to help purchase and restock libraries with essential reading material.

An inquiry into the allocated funds will also be launched by Minister Kariyawasam to observe if state funds have been channeled towards the betterment of school children.
