The government has decided to set up a new television channel for the predominantly Tamil-speaking community in the North and the East with the aim of fostering reconciliation.
Technical equipment needed for the setting up of ‘Channel of Reconciliation’ have already been ordered, co-cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said at the weekly cabinet briefing held at Department of Government Information (DGI) today (20).
It was decided to transfer a land of 100 perches from the land that Jaffna/Meesalei Weerasingham Central College is located in to SLRC on the above purpose.
Cabinet approval had been granted for the proposal put forward by Minister of Finance and Media Mangala Samaraweera, to take over the land by Sri Lanka Rupavahni Corporation, said Senaratne.
The government has decided to start the “Channel of Reconciliation” as it helps to build national reconciliation, he added.
