Nine election related complaints so far - Police

The Police Headquarters says that so far nine complaints have been received regarding the forthcoming Local Government election. 

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the complaints were recorded between December 09 and 6.00am this morning (21).

He said that an incident of distributing coconut plants, in a manner that violates elections laws, has been reported from the Panama area yesterday (20). 

Around 600 coconut plants have been taken into police custody while facts are to be presented to the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court regarding the matter, the spokesman said. 

Gunasekara added that incidents of assaults, threatening, stealing a nominations list, damages caused to posters and cutouts and the distribution of goods are among the complaints received.
