Police officer injured in shooting at Kataragama

A police constable attached to the Tangalle Police Station has been injured in a shooting incident at Kataragama today (21), police said.

The shooting has taken place near Katharagama town at around 6.50 am, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

The shooting has taken place following a personal dispute, preliminary investigations have revealed.

The injured PC, who is attached to the Tangalle police intelligence unit, has been admitted to the Hambantota Hospital. 
 
The shooting is suspected to have been carried out using a locally-manufactured illegal firearm (Galkatas).
