Two women arrested with gold worth Rs 10 million

Two Sri Lankan women have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle 1.1kg of gold into the country. 

Police said that the suspects, who arrived from Singapore this morning, were arrested by officers of the the Police Narcotics Bureau at the airport.

The seized gold jewellery is estimated to be worth around Rs 10 million.  

Arrested women, aged 50 and 56, are residents of Jaffna and have been handed over to Sri Lanka Customs for onward action.
