Train on Colombo-Kandy line collides with another train

UPDATE (8.40 pm): The number of injured person from the Polgahawela train collision has hiked up 32, stated the Police Media Spokesperson.

Reportedly, the injured have been admitted to Polagahawela, Kurunegala, Rambukkana and Kegalle hospitals.


UPDATE (7.50 pm): The Badulla night mail train scheduled to leave Colombo Fort at 8pm today (06) has been cancelled due to the Polgahawela accident, reports Railway Control Room.



UPDATE (7.35 pm): Fifteen persons have been injured in the collision and have been admitted to the Polgahawela hospital, say hospital sources.


A train on the Colombo-Kandy main line has collided with another Kandy bound train near Polgahawela Station.

The accident had occurred at around 6.30 pm today (06).

An office train travelling from Colombo to Kandy had broken down near Polgahawela Railway Station at around 4.30 pm and another train which was travelling behind on the same track, had collided with it.
