Drug kingpin Mohammed Siddique acquitted in heroin case

September 13, 2018   12:14 pm

The Colombo High Court today acquitted and released international drug dealer Mohammed Siddique and four other defendants in a case filed over the possession of 8.1 grams of heroin.

The Attorney General had filed the case against three suspects including Siddique charging them with the possession of 8.1 grams of heroin in the Maharagama area on February 03, 2003.

Delivering the verdict in the case today (13), Colombo High Court Judge Vikum Kaluarachchi stated that the Colombo Crimes Division’s ASP Priyantha Jayakody and other officers of the division, which had carried out the operation to arrest the accused, had provided conflicting testimonies before the court.

The Colombo High Court therefore ordered to acquit and release the defendant from the case as the plaintiff has failed to prove the charges against them without reasonable doubt.
