High possibility for afternoon thundershowers from Sunday

The Department of Meteorology said that the possibility for afternoon thundershowers over the Island, particularly in the Northern, Eastern, North-central and Uva provinces from 23rd September is high.

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Western provinces while several spells of showers will also occur in North-western province.

 

Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur at several places in Eastern and Uva provinces after 2.00 p.m.

 

Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces, the department said.

 

Sea Area:

 

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle.

 

Winds will be south-westerly in direction in the sea area around the island while the wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

 

The sea area extending from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-55 kmph at times.

 

The wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Mannar to Kankasanturai.

 

Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
