The response from Minister Mangala Samaraweera to a recent statement made by the Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith is the minister’s personal opinion, the UNP stated.

UNP Parliamentarian Hector Appuhamy stated this joining a press conference held in Colombo today (27).

The statement made by Minister Mangala Samaraweera is not the viewpoint of the government or the UNP, he said.

He further commented that necessary steps have been taken to implement a program to provide necessary knowledge on Italian language and industries in Italy to the students studying in grade 13 based in Puttalam district.

He also stated that the speech made by President Maithripala Sirisena at the General Assembly of UN is appreciative.

Joining the press conference, Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardana mentioned that there is no issue on providing security to the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
