Sea Area:

There is a possibility in the sea areas extending from Kalutara to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota may experience sea surges until the evening of 07th October 2018, due to the effect of swell waves, having 2.0-2.5 m height (This is not for land area).

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, South-Western and Southern sea areas of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island.

Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambanthota via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle and Matara.

Winds will be south-westerly in direction and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph in the sea areas extending from Bentota to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambantota. This sea area can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times.

Winds will be variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 15-25 kmph.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers, the department said.
