Several roads inundated due to rain; Welipenna interchange of expressway closed

The Welipenna interchange of the Southern Expressway has been temporarily closed as the Matugama-Aluthgama road is currently underwater, the Road Development Authority (RDA) announced.
Meanwhile the Puttalam-Mannar main road has been closed from Old Eluwankulama Road due to rising water level of the Kala Oya due to heavy rainfall.
The Puttalam District Disaster Management Unit requests the public and motorists using the Puttalam-Mannar road to use alternate routes to avoid that area.
Meanwhile several roads in Horana, Ingiriya, Mathugama, Agalawatta, Welipenna and Akurana areas are also reportedly inundated due to the adverse weather conditions.
