Steering committee drafting new constitution set to meet

The Steering Committee of Constitutional Assembly, appointed to prepare a draft for the new Constitution of Sri Lanka, is scheduled to assemble again today (11).

Accordingly, the committee will assemble at the parliament complex at 2.30 p.m. today.

The steering committee of Constitutional Assembly, comprising 21 parliamentarians, is chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The preparation of the draft for the new constitution for Sri Lanka has already been completed and the steering committee is slated to discuss the draft at the meeting today.

This is reportedly the first draft of the new constitution and it will be presented to the Constitutional Council following the steering committee’s meeting today.

The final draft of the new constitution will be prepared after obtaining the public opinion and suggestions on the draft.
