Attempt to smuggle Wallapatta worth Rs 2.3 million foiled

A Sri Lankan passenger has been apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle 23 kilograms of Wallapatta out of the country.

The 43-year-old from Nattandiya was preparing to travel to Dubai via Bahrain at 4.00 a.m. this morning (12) when he was detained by officers of the Customs Biodiversity Protection Unit at the departure terminal of the airport.

Around 23 kg of Wallapatta valued at Rs 2.3 million was found packed in three traveling bags including the suspect’s hand luggage.
