Four members of the same family were killed in a collision between a tipper truck and a motorbike in the Uttalapura town in Dehiattakandiya.

The father and the three children were killed while the mother sustained serious injuries.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased suspect that the accident was deliberately done by the owner of the tipper truck due to a conflict with the father.

The accident occurred in Uttalapura area on the Sadunpura-Lihiniyagama road at around 5.30 pm. The tipper truck arriving from Sadunpura had collided with the motorbike approaching from the opposite direction.

Five members of the same family had been riding the motorbike when the accident occurred.

The father and two of the children had succumbed to the injuries upon admittance to the hospital. The mother and the other child had been transferred from Dehiattakandiya hospital to the Polonnaruwa hospital for further treatment.

However, the third child, too, passed away due to the severity of the injuries.

The deceased are a 35 year old Namal Priyantha from Uttalapura and the sons aged 14, 10 and 5.

The mother had been transferred to Anuradhapura Hospital and her condition is critical, according to hospital sources.

Relatives suspect that the accident might have been done on purpose by the tipper truck owner due to a conflict between him and deceased Namal Priyantha regarding money.

When inquired by Ada Derana, higher-official of Dehiattakandiya police stated that both the driver and the owner of the tipper truck had been arrested over the incident.

They have been remanded till 29th October as ordered by the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate’s Court today (15).
