A group of employees of the Badulla Municipal Council withdrew from their garbage collecting services and launched a protest, today (18).

This was against an incident of a businessman in Badulla yelling at a female employee of the Badulla Municipal Council and assaulting another.

Protestors say that the said businessman had scolded a female worker of the Municipal Council Health Unit who had been removing trash in Badulla Town.

She had then informed the other workers regarding the incident and the businessman had assaulted another employee of the Municipal Council who he had come to inquire on it.

Employees of the Municipal Council engaged in the protest stating that the assaulted worker had been hospitalized and the police still haven’t arrested the businessman over it.

They say that they will report back to work if step will be taken to arrest the relevant businessman.
